One of the things I love most about Trader Joes is the seasonal infusion of new products. In autumn, of course, that means pumpkin products. While the pumpkin overnight oats aren’t new to the scene this year (making their debut in fall of 2021) they’ve secured a spot as a fall staple in my refrigerator.
I leave early for work and with 2 kids and a puppy, I often run out of time making meals to take for breakfast and lunch. Trader Joe’s overnight oats mix solved that problem. I just grab them and go, knowing I have a nutritious and delicious breakfast when I get to work. I go through phases with breakfasts to keep things interesting. The release of the pumpkin overnight oats for a limited fall run is the perfect way to vary up what can sometimes be a very monotonous breakfast routine.
For a long time I would spend an hour or two on Sunday nights making overnight oats for the week ahead. Now I have that time to spend with my family. This pre-portioned pack has everything I need and is delicious by itself or paired with a banana or apple if desired.
Flavor Profile & Ingredients
I love that there are very few ingredients (8 to be exact) and no preservatives. This makes me feel less guilty about buying a ready-made version for convenience. The flavor is perfect and the consistency smooth (a little mushy) with not too many rolled oats but just enough to have to chew a little bit. It’s also just enough to satisfy my sweet and savory cravings first thing in the morning without added sugar (courtesy of the date paste and natural sea salt). While they were good on their own, I’ll probably try pairing the overnight oats with a fruit and/or nuts to improve the consistency.
When you open the package you can smell the delicious aroma of cinnamon, pumpkin and almond butter. For those with dietary restrictions the fact that the pumpkin overnight oats are dairy and gluten free is a bonus (and believe me nothing is sacrificed because of it). Another added bonus, this small flavor packed breakfast with 5 grams of protein and 6 grams of dietary fiber. This helps to keep me full for a few hours so I don’t find myself looking to snack between meals.

Bottom Line
Grab-and-go meals like this that contain a short list of wholesome ingredients and are still delicious aren’t easy to find. Throw one in your briefcase if you’re heading into the office or in your backpack for a day on the trails.
