Despite lemon curd being simple to make, it should be full of flavor. The flavor profile of a lemon curd should contain hints of sweet, tart, sour, and of course lemon. When I saw lemon curd on the shelf at Trader Joe’s, I was so happy. Finding a good lemon curd can be tough, thankfully Trader Joe’s did an amazing job creating their version of Authentic Lemon Curd. This lemony treat will make your tastebuds sing with delight and make you feel like you should be in England enjoying some tea with your scone.
Trader Joe’s Imported English Authentic Lemon Curd has been imported from England for the last 15 years and they have certainly perfected their craft. The texture is exactly how it should be, smooth and creamy with a beautiful yellow color that reminds you of springtime to brighten your day or dish. The lemon curd is simple, clean, and made with only eight ingredients. While it isn’t the healthiest option on the shelf, you do know exactly what you are getting. The list of ingredients is cane sugar, eggs, butter (milk), water, lemon juice concentrate, pectin, lemon oil, and citric acid. These ingredients are very similar to recipes for making lemon curd at home, which means you are not getting anything extra in the recipe that you do not need.
Although the ingredients are clean, the sugar content is high per serving for this product. Coming in at 19 grams of sugar per serving, you will want to watch how much you eat in one sitting. One serving is only 1 tablespoon, which means the sugar could add up rather quickly! Yikes!
What to Do With Trader Joe’s Lemon Curd
The sugar content may be high, but that didn’t stop me from trying this on all my favorite foods. There are so many ways to use this lemon curd, honestly, the list is never-ending. Here are some of my favorite foods to eat with Trader Joe’s Authentic Lemon Curd:
- Top off your blueberry muffin or scone
- Mix some into your yogurt and add a crushed graham cracker for a simple, yet delectable parfait
- A topping on your pancakes
- As a salad dressing. Yes, you read that correctly. Mix some olive oil, vinegar, lemon curd, and seasonings to make a sweet but great addition to your salad
- Mixed into your French vanilla ice cream
- Pair it with cheeses such as Mozzarella, Cream Cheese or Gruyere
- Cupcake filling
- Make a quick dessert sauce by combining the lemon curd with some hot water
- Any type of pastry, etc.
If these ideas aren’t enough, we recommend trying Rachael Ray’s Lemon Chicken recipe. The dish is one of her popular “30 minute meals” which calls for 8oz of lemon curd that creates a flavorful lemony sauce.
If you’re feeling a little more adventurous and have some time on your hands try this highly rated Braided Lemon Bread Recipe from MaryJane Robbins of King Arthur Baking Company. Your jar of TJ’s lemon curd is the perfect size to fill two large loaves.
Price

As you can see, this lemon curd has never-ending possibilities when it comes to how to use it in the kitchen. Another nod in the favor of this lemon curd from Trader Joe’s is the price. The jar is 10.5 ounces and costs $3.49, making it a very affordable option for adding some sweetness to your meals. The price of the jar is also competitive with other brands to add another point for Trader Joe’s. Note: the competitors prices were based off Amazon.com pricing at the time of writing and may be higher or lower at your local grocery store.
Packaging

This may be a personal preference, but the packaging of the lemon curd is something that did sell me when I first saw it on the shelf. The jar is made from glass and has a screw-on top, making it reusable which is great for both you and the environment. A win-win for everybody!
Final Thoughts
In the end, my purchase of Trader Joe’s Authentic Lemon Curd was a great one that I will be making again. Due to the high sugar content, I will not make a habit of getting a jar every time I shop, but it is a great option for when I want something sweet and a little different. Trader Joe’s Authentic Lemon Curd is an overall good purchase to make.
