I recently started weight watchers as a way to reign myself in after the holiday season. I know everyone loves weight watchers because you can technically eat whatever you want as long as you balance out the points.
That is true but when a bagel and cream cheese is 14 points (9 alone for the bagel) which could be half of your daily points that doesn’t seem like a practical choice. So after about 2 weeks of no bagels, I took to the internet and started looking for replacement ideas. When I came across the Weight Watchers 3 point bagel recipe, I was excited!
Jump to RecipeYes, Weight Watchers Bagels are only 3 points!
(Even the “healthy” bagels like Dave’s Killer Bread Plain Awesome Bagels were 8 points)
The recipe says it is 2 ingredient bagels which includes self-rising flour and fat free Greek yogurt. In order to keep the point value low for these bagels, the yogurt has to be fat free because that is a zero point item on Weight Watchers.
That sounds super easy except that I don’t keep self-rising flour in my house so it really wasn’t 2 ingredients for me.
They also don’t include the egg (0 points) in the recipe for the egg wash which you need to use to add toppings and to get that nice shiny bagel finish.
How to Make Self Rising Flour
Making self-rising flour is easy and it does use ingredients that are usually in my pantry (flour, salt and baking soda). I was able to make the flour first and then continue with the recipe. This also extended the prep time for me. I would say the prep time is 15 minutes.
*Note* the amount of self rising flour made in the recipe below is what is needed for the weight watchers bagel recipe below. Most self rising flour recipes make one cup of self rising flour.
Self Rising Flour Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
Self Rising Flour Recipe Instructions
It honestly couldn’t be easier. Measure out the ingredients and stir together in a large mixing bowl. You’ll then use this same bowl to make the bagel dough.
*Note* Since you are using self-rising flour, no yeast is needed for this recipe.
Here are all the ingredients I used to make the weight watchers bagels from scratch (this makes 8 bagels).
How to Make Weight Watchers Bagels
Weight Watchers Bagels Ingredients
- 2 cups self rising flour (recipe above)
- 2 cups fat free Greek yogurt
- 1 egg
- Optional Toppings:
- Everything But the Bagel Seasoning (Trader Joe’s)
- Sesame Seeds
- Cinnamon & Sugar (recipe below)
- or any topping of your choice
Equipment Needed
- Oven
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Baking Spatula
- Parchment Paper
- Baking Sheet
- Silicone Brush
Weight Watchers Bagels Recipe:
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
3. In a large bowl mix together the flour, baking powder and salt (to create the self-rising flour) once that is mixed well, add in the 2 cups of fat free Greek yogurt. Use a spatula to mix this together until it has a dough-like consistency. In the bowl it will probably be a little crumbly so once it is somewhat together, you want to put it onto a flour lined surface and knead it together until it is all combined into a dough.
4. Spread the dough into a rectangle and cut it into 8 equal parts (as shown in the picture)
5. Roll each piece until they are approximately 10 inches and then form a ring by mushing the 2 ends together.
6. Place each ring on the baking sheet.
7. Once all rings are on the baking sheet use the egg to wash the top of each bagel and then add your topping of choice.
8. Sprinkle on Everything But the Bagel Seasoning.
9. Bake for 23-25 minutes.
Some recipes say to broil for the last 2 minutes. In my convection oven, this was not necessary. After 25 minutes, the bagels came out with a crispy top and bottom and a soft inside. They were delicious.

2 Ingredient Weight Watchers Bagel Review
In my opinion these bagels totally hit the spot and satisfied my breakfast craving. I added 1 tablespoon of Trader Joe’s light cream cheese (1 tbsp. = 1 point). I have also been pairing the bagels with an egg (0 points) or some fruit (0 points) on mornings when I am hungrier or working out and it definitely keeps me full until lunch.
I made 8 bagels because with a full time job and 2 kids, I really need to prepare food in advance if I want to make good choices.
How to Store Homemade Weight Watchers Bagels
The bagels were delicious when eaten fresh from the oven and I was curious to see what would happen when I stored them for future use. Once they cooled I put them in a ziploc bag in the refrigerator. I thought since they don’t have any preservatives, this was best for storage.
The next day I toasted one up to test it out. After 2 1/2 minutes of toasting on setting 3 in my breville toaster oven, it was soft but not crispy so I added 2 1/2 more minutes. That did the trick! The bagel was just as delicious as it was when I first made them.
The next day I did the same thing and I felt the same way. Now I put the leftovers in the freezer to see how they freeze because that would really be a game changer for making larger quantities. From frozen I found that I needed to toast these the same way but I did notice that the centers did not get as crispy as a traditional bagel.
How to Top Your Weight Watchers Bagels
When I was making the bagels I really enjoyed the Everything but the Bagel Seasoning on top. In general, everything bagels are my favorite so I may be biased but the plain bagel just didn’t have much flavor. In my opinion, the 2 ingredient bagels need a topping or a spread to add some flavor but then again, I find “real” plain bagels to be a little boring too.
Another delicious topping is cinnamon sugar which could be used after the egg wash or you could add cinnamon to the dough if you wanted a whole batch of cinnamon bagels. OR top with some peanut butter (1 tbsp. = 3 points) and it is a delicious breakfast with protein power to get your day going.
