Either this plant-based milk is new to you, or you have six cartons stockpiled in your pantry closet at home.
This almond milk beverage hit shelves a few years back, but had received an outstanding reaction from many individuals. After reading numerous amounts of reviews, I knew I had to try this product.
But, how should I taste-test this milk for the first time? Should I have it with a bowl of cereal? Should I heat it up to enjoy from my coffee mug? There were a number of different ways that individuals were claiming to be their “favourite way to have this plant-based milk”.
Just like so many other Trader Joe’s goods, this Blueberry Lavender Almond Milk is next level when it comes to vegan milk options. Surprisingly, this milk beverage was the same color as any other typical almond milk. I expected some sort of light blue or purple hue, but this looked very plain in color.
The Taste
I could understand why many individuals would be nervous to try this flavored milk drink, since lavender can be a very distinct, strong smell, let alone taste. Instead of the flavor coming off as strong and unappealing, it was a subtle taste. The same went for the blueberry addition. The blueberry flavor is more prominent than the lavender. Both flavors were delicate, which created a delicious almond milk beverage unlike others. It almost reminded of these blueberry streusel muffins I make.
What to do with Trader Joes Blueberry Lavender Milk
I enjoyed this beverage in traditional and non-traditional ways. As an avid plant-based milk drinker, I used this milk in my everyday smoothie. Next, I tried it in a bowl mixed with cereal. This almond milk had become my new go-to plant-based milk option. I loved how the hint of blueberries and lavender could transform a boring smoothie or bowl of cereal into something special. Up next to try is substituting it for my unsweetened vanilla almond milk to make my overnight oats. I can’t wait!
Surprisingly, I enjoyed this beverage mixed with my daily greens powder. A greens powder contains greens, vegetables, and supplements for health. Mixing the greens powder with the blueberry lavender almond milk, turned this unappetizing supplement into something delicious. I also had read that other buyers were steeping tea bags in the almond milk and using it as their everyday coffee creamer. Both are ways that I plan to try!
Trader Joe’s Blueberry Lavender Flavored Almond Milk Nutrition Facts
The nutrition label is similar to other almond milks, 60 calories in one cup and low in fat. The ingredients are not organic, but there are less than 10 listed. For 32 ounces, this product sells for just around two dollars, much lower in price than its competitors. This milk beverage is also shelf-stable, making it a perfect pantry item. The carton I bought had an expiration date over 9 months from my purchase date, just to give you an idea. Once opened it should be consumed within 7-10 days.
For those with dietary restrictions, Trader Joe’s blueberry lavender flavored almond milk checks many boxes. It’s Gluten Free, Lactose and Dairy Free, Soy Free and Vegan.
Trader Joe’s Blueberry Lavender Flavored Almond Milk Ingredients
TJ’s kept the list of ingredients short on this almond beverage. The main ingredient is almond base which consists of filtered water and almonds. Then in order of predominance you have cane sugar, natural flavors, natural blueberry flavor with other natural flavors, sunflower lecithin, guar gum, sea salt, gellan gum, lavender extract (ethyl alcohol, lavender oil, natural flavor). Yes, we weren’t thrilled to find that there were 7g of added sugars. However, this is very comparable to other almond beverages (the regular ones, not their unsweetened versions).
One of a Kind
As someone who loves to recreate their favorite restaurant dishes or store-bought food products, it was not likely that I was going to try to come close with this one. It seems that this product had just the right amount of each ingredient, that it would be difficult to come close when duplicating. I would be happy to purchase this product repeatedly.
No comparable plant-based milk is found in other stores, like the Lavender Blueberry flavored almond milk. Trader Joe’s excels at creating innovative food items, which compel people to share on social media and to rush to the nearest store to purchase. This almond milk beverage has won over the hearts (and taste buds) of many people.
Where to Find At Trader Joe’s?
In our local Trader Joe’s the blueberry lavender flavored almond milk can be found in the back right corner of the store. If you’re facing the dairy refrigerator turn to the right and you’ll see a shelf with all the shelf stable milk beverages.
Blueberry Lavender Flavored Almond Milk Discontinued
Rumors year after year clamied that Trader Joes was discontinuing the cult favorite specialty almond drink. Today, we learned it’s fate and that those rumors were merely a foreshadowing of what was to come.
A member of the Trader Joes team confirmed that, as of September 10, 2023, they had already discontinued the blueberry lavender flavored almond beverage on the west coast.
For other regions around the United States, they still list it as “to be discontinued”. This means that if you enjoy it as much as I do, go to your local TJ’s and stock up. It’s still unknown whether stores will continue to re-stock this item while there is still inventory left in the supply chain or if what they have on the shelves is all there is.
Remember, you can store the shelf stable almond milk in a cool dry place for several months (but always check the package for best buy dates before you purchase).
Would We Buy It Again?
With the low cost and shelf-stable quality, I think that overall this creative product is WORTH it to purchase. There are many ways to enjoy this almond milk and I promise, you will definitely enjoy one of them.
